WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE PLANTS IN EVERY ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE
I have plants in EVERY room of my house. Both real and faux. There is something about adding a plant to a space that completely changes my feelings about it. It automatically makes me feel relaxed and at ease.
Do you feel this way about plants too?
As a designer, I’ve noticed that sometimes the client and I have filled a space. I’ve chosen every element, all items have been ordered and placed, and yet, it feels like something is missing. It was early in my design career that I started to realize just what it was!
I had taken a trip to home goods one time, to add the finishing touches to a client’s yoga space. I had a plethora of items in my cart from vases to meditation pillows, to relaxation candles. I passed the plant aisle and it dawned on me that of all spaces that needed plant life, a yoga studio would definitely be it! I added several to each corner and to this day (5 years later) the client still thinks that is the best space in the home.
Since that day, I finish every client space with plants. If for some reason we can’t do real ones we add faux, and while they don’t have the same health benefits I do think that they feel very similar.
Plants are a great and inexpensive way to jazz up any room!
SO WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF INDOOR PLANTS?
House plants improve concentration and productivity (by up to 15%), reduce stress levels, and boost your mood.
Help improve air quality
Reducing levels of certain pollutants, such as benzene and nitrogen dioxide.
Reducing airborne dust levels.
Keeping air temperatures down.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
It’s best to start with low maintenance indoor plants. Make sure to research how much lighting they need and keep them in an appropriate place on your home based on that.
Here a few low maintenance starter plants!
LOW MAINTENANCE STARTER PLANTS:
Monstera deliciosa (Swiss cheese plant)
Epipremnum aureum (golden pothos or devil’s ivy)
Chlorophytum comosum (spider plant)
